The shadow of beautiful giants
I stand in the shadow of beautiful giants.
I benefit because I bask in their shade
But no one sees me as they move forward.
I myself move back because I am afraid.
My footsteps are light as their movements are deep.
They glide forward as leaders as I shuffle along like sheep.
My voice is lost in the midst of the flurry.
They stand tall and bellow out their words as people run and
hurry.
Their beauty is awesome attracting all those who love.
My presence is soft and meaningless as I look to them above.
To them belong glory, honour and people’s praise
To me belong silence, ignorance and no one’s gaze
I walk in the shadow of beautiful giants almost every day.
But what else can I do there is no other way.
Let me enjoy a moment when the brush of someone’s hand
touches mine as they run to grasp the hem of their garment.
For a moment, I feel a part of the crowd.
My existence was noticed, my voice might have been loud.
I walk behind beautiful giants and it will always be this
way.
As I continue to dance in and out of their shadows and curse
the fact it remains the same each and every day.
